Transfer of deeds without a solicitor

Transfer of deeds without a solicitor

Postby cozier on Sun Feb 08, 2009 7:58 pm

Hi

Any advice please!

I am looking into transferring the title deeds of my current home which are at present solely in my name, into that of my partners (we are not married). There is no mortgage, no debts, no bankruptcy.
I am looking to do this without the aid of a solicitor (as I have been told that this is straightforward) but I wish to act legally. Would SDLT need to be paid - I have received conflicting advice so far.

With thanks.

SDLT is payable on "chargeable consideration".

As you are proposing a gift (and no mortgage is involved) there is not SDLT.
