Turning 18 and tax code 0T

Turning 18 and tax code 0T

Postby tom7 on Mon Aug 23, 2010 11:56 am

When I turned 18 my tax code changed to 0T. Firstly what does this mean ?
Then when I got that months wage slip I was taxed nearly £200 on my monthly wage. I only work 8 hrs a week at an hrly rate of £5.83. Why was a taxed so much or is that just a one off?
Please can you give me answers?

Muchly appreciated

Thanks

Tax code ‘0T’ means your allowances have been used up or reduced to nil and your income is taxed at the relevant tax rates.

This sounds like an error fo call them or write to them to have this verified/corrected. Regards Peter

Yes, this sounds like an error, but normally HM Revenue only do this where there is other income.
do you have two jobs, perhaps, or some other income ?

Or are you not a UK resident? (Seems unlikely.)

Could be having a bad day...but 8hrs a week @ 5.83 (assuming 4 weeks) comes to £186.56...so you were taxed at a c100% rate!? (Even a 5 week month you'd only earn 233.2).

Is this OT the same as the old BR (where they just removed your tax free allow)?
Do you adore to transfer your artistic and inventive qualities to renovate a part type? Perhaps your friends who tour your sanctuary head remarks about want they could levy you to change their premises.
