UK Investor Visa - Tax Liability on Investment

UK Investor Visa - Tax Liability on Investment

Postby luvbritain on Tue Jan 24, 2012 3:47 am

I am considering coming to the UK on a UK Investor Visa upon retirement. The UK requires an investment of at least £1,000,000 in a business / businesses or in UK govt. bonds. Will I have to pay UK tax on the investment if I purchase UK bonds? I know that HMRC is considering allowing investments free of tax if investments are made into trading companies, but I prefer less risk. Thank you for your time and guidance.

You don’t need to pay UK tax when you purchase UK bonds but you will have to pay income tax from annual yield/income of these bonds and also when you sell the bonds you need to pay capital gains tax if you make any profit. If you need to clarify anything else feel free to contact me.
