Unusual situation- living in 2 countries.

Unusual situation- living in 2 countries.

This is a question that probably hasn't been answered before.

I am a professional poker player living in England, I pay 0% income tax as my "profession" is considered gambling. I have a girlfriend that lives in the Netherlands and I would like to know where I would stand if I were to possibly live there as well as in England.

Currently the tax situation on poker is a joke, you pay 50% on gross winnings (not net!) so if it's not possible to avoid paying tax obviously me moving there for any length of time is a no no. Most Dutch poker players have already given up and moved to Ireland or Malta.

Is there a threshold on how long I can spend living in the country? What are my options?

Hi Dan,

Whilst not addressing your specific question, you might like to read PWC's Dutch tax guide for international assignees which should give you some useful background information on the Dutch tax system. You can access this publication through the useful links section of the website below.

Kind Regards

Wow thank you very much etf, there is a whole lot of info in this brochure.

I suck at understanding some of these things though, I know very little about tax because I don't have to pay it. This is what I have plucked from it so far, could someone give me some help on understanding it?
