US Dividends from April 2016

Postby dowles » Fri Feb 26, 2016 3:50 pm

Hi - At the moment if I receive a dividend from a US stock there is a 15% withholding tax - so if say Disney paid a dividend of $100 I would receive $85 in my account. Given that there will be a £5000 tax free allowance for dividends from April 2016 will I be able to claim back this $15 on my tax return or better still would I now receive the full $100 into my account?

Thanks

New dividend tax rules were announced in the Autumn Budget and have not been enshrined in legislation so far. The Government produced Dividend Allowance factsheet dealing with UK dividends at:
https://www.gov.uk/government/publicati ... -factsheet
but have not made up their mind on how to tax foreign dividends as yet.
