Vat invoices for purchases

Vat invoices for purchases

Postby samr on Mon Mar 08, 2010 9:41 pm

I have a basic question that I am sure has previously been answered (apologies), however, I am unable to find the required information.

I have received a receipt with a VAT breakdown from a company for the sum of £410. The receipt has everything required, however, it doesn't have my details on it, although I did pay with a card the partial details of which are on the receipt and the card is registered to me. Will this suffice or should I pursue getting a full invoice including my details?

Similarly I obtained a receipt for goods from another supplier (under £250 in value) and I noted they didn't provide their company address on the receipt. I asked for a correct simplified format receipt with their address and the sales person simply wrote the address on my receipt. Would this be valid?

Many thanks for your help in advance.

If the card number is yours, then it shouldn't be a problem.

Second (hand written address) invoice is OK.

BUT strictly, they should include all this info:http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/vat/managing/charging/vat-invoices.htm
With a pinch of salt take what I say, but don't exceed your RDA

Thank you for the information. I have read the guidelines but was unsure how flexible the VAT man may be when it's clear you're tried to comply. I am finding it most frustrating the number of places that do not seem to provide valid VAT receipts or don't have people who understand what they should contain.

Many thanks.

Oh hell yeah

Ive even seen "Registered for VAY" (obviously a typo) and many many reciepts with either no date, no vat number,no customer details, no supplier address.

Once I saw; (handwritten)

Goods £100.00
VAT@17.5% £ 50.00
Total £150.00

Turned out the guy (builder)who produced this work of art was not vat registered, and also not sober a lot of the time!!!!
