VAT on A live/work newBuild

VAT on A live/work newBuild

Postby jensenff on Thu Dec 08, 2011 12:41 pm

Hi,
I have just had a reclaim refused because I have a live/work barn conversion, and the one of the planning restrictions is that part of the barn is to be permantently retained for B1 uses only, it can not be let, sold or otherwise occupied independently of the dwelling. I was not awarre that this clause would make my claim invalid. So my question is if you have not already guesssed, is there any way I can claim the VAT back... not necessarily under the DIY selfbuilder scheme.
Many thanks in advance for your replies.

Do you make any taxable supplies?
Do you adore to transfer your artistic and inventive qualities to renovate a part type? Perhaps your friends who tour your sanctuary head remarks about want they could levy you to change their premises.

As this is what on a claim for VAT relies.

Yes there is. For example, you could opt to tax the property and then sell it to a person that does not intend to use any part of it for a residential purpose.

However, more practically, it would be worth considering the wider circumstances (which is what, I think, Generix rightly alludes to).

Shocking (on my part), the penny has only just dropped.
