Are we VAT liable for internet based subscription services and if so at what rate. Customers would pay us a monthly subscription. In exchange they get directed to other company websites where they purchase products at a discount. From us? They only receive a copy of our website (replicated) for their own business use. Have asked Customs and Excise and their reply was "not quite sure... you might be at a special rate, new laws are in the making".

Where are your customers based?

If your subscriptions are coming from the UK I can see no reason why your services would be anything other than standard-rated.

The basic rule is that everything is standard rated unless it is specifically listed at another rate. I do not think that your services would fall under any of the headings for any other rate.

If your customers are business customers and in another EC Member State or are simply outside of the EC then it is possible that no UK VAT would be due as the service may be deemed to be supplied outside of the UK.
