VAT on sale invoice to EU shipped to UK

Postby SamsonSF » Wed Aug 03, 2016 5:28 pm

Hi, We've got a customer who has an EU VAT number, he ordered from us but the goods were shipped to a UK address so never left the country (and won't, they are for a British company) do we zero rate the VAT or keep it at 20%?

Thanks for the help!

Must be standard rated for intra-UK supply.

Sorry just to be clear as my wording is a little odd! The company who purchased the products are not in the UK but they were purchasing them as part of a bigger order that was all going to a UK firm, so we weren't selling to a UK company but the person who we were selling to wanted them shipped direct to their customer in the UK so the goods never left the UK

As Les said, UK VAT will be due as the goods do not leave the UK. Rate will be dependent on the product. The non-UK business will also be obliged to register for UK VAT if it has not already done so.
