You can claim this on the tax return - either self employed pages or employment.

You will claim 17p per mile for the first 10,000 miles and then 2p for the next 20,000 miles.

Let me know if you would like the return reviewed before submission.

If employed, you can use form P87, which is downloadable from the Inland Revenue's website.

I am starting a new job in January and will be doing a relatively small amount of business mileage. I do not wish to have any personal fuel allowance or a Co petrol car that might render me liable for any tax against it.

I understand that I can claim "up to" 40p per mile up to 10k miles p.a. (won't do anywhere near that) as a normal expense as long as it is on a proper mileage log form.

Q - Is this XXp per mile taxed? I assume not, as it is all work related but I would just like to be sure.

Thanks in advance.

That should read: "Co petrol "CARD" ... not "car"!
