Income tax, state pension and national insurance for seaman

Good morning,
Last December I reached 65 and started to receive my state pension. I'm a British seaman and continue full time work.
I asked my office to stop deducting NI which they did. However, my tax code changed a month later which made me no better off.
The following April I claimed my 100% seaman's tax deduction which I was fully entitled to.
Unfortunately the state pension I had received up to then was deducted from this and so, once again I'm no better off.
Is this right ?
