When to apply for class 2 exemption?

When to apply for class 2 exemption?

Postby AdrianH on Thu Jul 22, 2010 8:57 am

I've recently started doing some freelance work in my spare time (I am also full time employed) and so have registered earlier this week on the HMRC site as self employed.

I'm not expecting to earn over the ~£5000 threshold per year in self employment as it's only the odd bit of work here and there. So I want to apply for class 2 NI exemption. At what point do I send the form off?

As I registered as self employed online, and there's no way to apply for the exemption online at the same time (from what I could see), I'm not sure whether I need to wait to hear back from my registration before then applying for exemption? Or can I just send the form off straight away?

If you've got a NINO, send the form off immediately.
With a pinch of salt take what I say, but don't exceed your RDA
