which tax to pay?

which tax to pay?

Postby georgers on Thu May 12, 2011 12:51 pm

Hi, I along with others in my community are looking to set up a religious/faith organislation but we have not decided on the structure yet. it may be an unicorporated association or a trust or a company. the organisation will be recieving donations from the congregation including ourselves. we are not going to take any money out for ourselves. the only money going out will be to pay a small wage to those people conducting the religious services and general building/maintainence expenses and insuarances and rates

my question is: is there any tax to pay on the donations recieved? and what tax is payable (assuming if we are not a company) also assume that donations will be greater than expenses

we are not a registered charity, we will look into that depending on the answers here

thanks

Are you satisfied that the donations are actually donations as opposed to consideration for something. Will the donors be receiving anything at all from the recipient?

the donors will be recieving nothing at all. they will be praying and its their choice if they make a donation or not. the organisation would probably be called a not for profit organisation. do these organisations pay corporation tax?
thanks
