TOTTEL'S TAX PLANNING FOR FAMILY AND OWNER MANAGED COMPANIES 2005-06

Family and owner managed companies form a significant part of the client base of many professional practices. Anyone advising those clients will know how potentially complicated and diverse tax planning in this area can be. Perhaps this explains why Tottel's Tax Planning for Family and Owner Managed Companies has been such a well-known and popular title over the years. The book, which is expertly written by Peter Rayney of BDO Stoy Hayward, runs to an impressive 697 pages including index. A total of 17 Chapters cover key areas of tax planning, including strategies for extracting funds from the company, reorganising shares and trading activities (including useful sections on share buy-backs), with separate Chapters covering valuing, selling and winding-up the family or owner-managed company.

The style and format of Tax Planning for Family and Owner Managed Companies makes the book very easy to use and follow in my view. Numerous worked examples are included. In addition, there are planning checklists at the end of most Chapters to summarise the key points. Whole books have been written on the subject matter of certain Chapters (e.g. employee share schemes and plans, pension scheme strategies, etc), so Tax Planning for Family and Owner Managed Companies should not be seen as a definitive guide to all the topics covered. However, overall it should prove to be a helpful and practical point of reference for those involved in this popular area of tax planning.

Tottel's Tax Planning for Family and Owner Managed Companies costs £69.50. To order the book, click here
