TAX EFFICIENT INVESTMENTS

The tendency of UK Governments in recent years has been towards encouraging taxpayers to save and invest. This has resulted in various 'tax efficient' products being made available. Savings vehicles such as Individual Savings Accounts (ISAs) offer the opportunity of tax-free savings. In addition, investment opportunities such as Venture Capital Trusts (VCTs) and the Enterprise Investment Scheme (EIS) provide the possibility of tax breaks for investors. Contributions to pension schemes approved by the Inland Revenue also enjoy potential tax relief and can be allowed to accumulate in a tax-free environment, subject to conditions and within certain limits. The tax considerations of these savings and investment opportunities are featured in this area of TaxationWeb. Many other categories of tax efficient investments will be featured on an ongoing basis.

The Tax Efficient Investment section feature news and articles from financial advisers who are professionals in their field. In some cases, there is also the opportunity to contact a financial adviser for further details of the investment products featured. Of course, the 'tax favoured' status of savings and investment products is only one aspect to be considered. The old adage 'never let the tax tail wag the commercial dog' is certainly worth bearing in mind. Specific financial advice is essential.
