BRINGING MONEY INTO THE UK FROM PAKISTAN

Postby AMER_1981 » Sun May 17, 2009 5:08 pm

Hi - i was wondering if someone could help me on the following situation -
My cousin has recently moved to the UK from Pakistan as a spouse of his wife, who is british. His parents would like to send him some money - approx. £30k as a gift so that he can put a deposit down for a house. Incidentally, in case it's relevant or required - the money is proceeds from the sale of some land in Paksitan and can be verified.

Does anybody know the rules and regulations for bringing money of this quantity into the UK? Are there any taxes that need to be paid in the UK on this money and which authority would need contacting.

Any help on this question would be greatly appreciated,

Many Thanks in advance,

Kind Regards,

Mr Hussain

There are no UK tax implications on bringing money into the UK under the circumstances described.
There may be Pakistani matters which need to be dealt with (CGT etc)

Hi - thanks for the reply.
Ok - understand there are no UK tax implications. What about contacting any government dept's to make them aware - is this necessary?

Thanks in advance,

No you don't have to tell anyone.
But.....
Deposit taker will ask where funds originated.

Dear Mr Hussain,

I was just wandering whether you were able to resolve this matter and how you resolved it.

We are in a very similar situation and would also be grateful if you could pass on your experience in this matter

Thanks
