BTL income tax

Postby Hove81 » Fri Jun 01, 2018 6:05 pm

I jointly own 2 BTL with my ex.

We split last year and I moved into one of the houses.

He recieves all the rent from the 1 still rented out and pays both the mortgages (I’m buying him out of the one I live in so he won’t be paying it for much longer)

Question:

Can he offset both mortgage payments against the rent received from the 1 property?

I receive no rent, will I have a tax liability as it is in joint names or is it that he’s paying the mortgage and receiving the rent so my income stays at 0?

Many thanks
