CGT on inherited property?

Postby shmoo » Sun Sep 03, 2017 6:49 pm

Hi,

I am the owner of a property (flat) in which my partner and child are currently living in.

We have also, recently, jointly purchased a property (house) in which we will soon move into. My current property (flat) will then be set up as a buy to let.

In my will, I have passed all my assets to my spouse, so in the event of my death, my current property (flat) will be passed on to my spouse.

Should my spouse then wish to sell the inherited property (flat) will she be liable to pay CGT on it?

Are there any other taxes she will have to pay either on inheritance or when she sells the property (flat)?

Thanks.

On your death your wife would acquire the flat at its then market value. If she then sold it she would be liable to CGT on any gain she made.
