Closing a Partnership

Postby AndreaH » Mon Nov 10, 2025 11:47 am

My partnership (not limited) stopped trading just before April 5th 2025. I have just realised (from an HMRC video) that I should have notified HMRC before the end of the tax year if the partnership was ending in that tax year. When I do the partnership and self assessment returns, is it better to say that the partnership ended before April 5th 2025 despite not having told HMRC, or do I tell HMRC I am closing it this year and effectively have a year of "zero accounts"? Thanks.

All you have to do is send in a completed partnership return before the deadline, giving the correct date of cessation.
(And of course include that information on your personal partnership return.)

So we just have to complete our personal and partnership returns by end January, giving cessation date 5th April.
Thank you so much.
