Did not declare as Self Employed on SA

Hi, I did not declare as self employed on my Self Assessment. I did not because I have no income or expenses/allowances (writing a book).

Is this a problem?

I do not think so. I had a similar issue and was told the penalty is a percentage of tax liability not paid and as unpaid tax was still nil there was no liability.

In other words as tax was not owed, the mistake did not matter apart from on their figures
