Divorce and stamp duty refund

Postby njec » Fri Sep 15, 2017 2:10 pm

Back in May 2016 my wife and I decided to divorce and started proceedings. I had agreed to buy her out of the house. She eventually moved out of our marital home in October 2016 with me giving her exactly 50% of house value. I paid stamp duty on this at the time and I am now sole owner on deeds. We finally divorced officially in February 2017 with the court agreeing that we had split everything 50%.
Am I now entitled for a refund of the stamp duty as I am now officially divorced?

Not sure why you paid SDLT in the first place?
