How to reduce my tax for payments I've made on account

Postby JimmyM1000 » Tue Sep 25, 2018 8:07 pm

In my 2016/17 online self assessment return submitted in January 2018 my SA calculation stated I should pay a 1st payment on account of £435 for 2017/18 as well as my tax due for 2016/17 and then pay a further 2nd payment of £435 in July 2018. I understand why these payments were required however my question is how do I reduce these payments made from what my SA calculations say I owe for 2017/18 as these two payments aren't recorded in my calculation as having already been paid ?

Your self assessment is the amount due before taking into account the amounts paid.

When the return is submitted, your online statement will show the amount due and the amounts already paid.

Thanks for your response.

I did proceed as far as I could and saw my calculation but didn't submit my return. So if I submit the return will it knock these amounts off what I owe and give me a revised amount that I need to pay?

Thanks I was just being overly cautious before I did proceed. 👍
