as i understand it you can transfere your money to your wife with no IHT
my wife is non domicile and non resident does this change anything

Yes, it changes quite a lot!

The inter-spousal exemption is £325,000 if your spouse is non-domicile.

There are ways around this that may or may not be beneficial.

Not quite sure I understand that
Are you saying that I can transfer 325,000 pounds to my non domicile non resident foreign wife before I die with no IHT after my death

Yes, basically. The £325,000 exemption is in addition to the £325,000 nil rate band.

Or:

(1) she can elect to be treated as deemed domiciled now; or
(2) if you do not survive a gift by 7 years, she can elect retrospectively.

If she elects, the exemption is unlimited.
