Income from UK property to family overseas

Postby TIMHOOTON » Wed Jan 16, 2019 4:28 pm

Two of my children (43 &45) work overseas.
I have gifted part ownership of flats in Edinburgh and they are now due to receive their share of rental income. I am aware that i am supposed to deduct tax and pass this to HMRC but dont know how to do this
have searched the HMRC website and can only find text that tells me what a tenant should do.. Or What a letting agent should do. I am neither of these. My overseas offspring have not worked in UK for 10+ years and do not make UK tax returns.

If you are collecting rents, you are acting as agent for the owners.

You can avoid this if they register for gross payment.
