Is SRT / exit plan professional advice recommended in my case?

Postby Melchett » Mon Sep 28, 2026 5:06 pm

Hi all,

I have been tax resident in the UK for the past 10+ years and am considering applying for the S-MM2H visa in Malaysia. I am currently unemployed (semi retired), have no properties, businesses or family in the UK (only cash from the sale of my last house of which I earn UK bank interest as well as some dividend income on shareholdings). I have been outside the UK for most of 2026/27 so far and by the end of 2026/27 I will likely have spent around 60 days in the UK.

Is it worth getting professional advice regarding an exit plan / SRT / Disregarded income etc.? Or is my case simple enough and I just need to retain appropriate records including flight bookings, boarding passes and overseas hotel receipts? My understanding is that I would complete the non-resident section of Self Assessment and declare UK bank interest and dividend income going forward from 2026/27.

Thanks
