Late Self Assessment Tax Return 2015/2016

Postby Glenn_01 » Thu Mar 01, 2018 12:37 pm

Hi there,

I returned from abroad during the 2015/2016 financial year and only worked part of the year. My tax rate was at 40% for the few months that I worked and so my yearly income would put me in the lower tax bracket. I've only recently realised that I've clearly paid too much tax during 2015/2016.

Is it still possible to submit a self assessment tax return and will I be fined even though I'm owed money from HMRC?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

If HMRC have not asked you to self-assess, there is no need to do so. Just write to HMRC asking for a refund.

Thanks bd6759 for your response.

HMRC have not asked me for a self assessment. How would you advise I contact them on this issue? Is there a particular web page to lodge these types on requests to HMRC (I tend to go around in circles navigating government websites :-)?

Cheers,
Glenn
