Most tax efficient way to leave money to an American charity in my will

I'd like update my will to leave some money to an American 501(c)3 charity but it's confusing how to do this without losing a huge amount of it to tax. I've spoken to the Charities Aid Foundation but I'd really like to speak to a tax person who has experience in this area. If anyone can recommend a person or a company to speak to I'd be very grateful. Thanks.

A solicitor member of STEP (www.step.org) should be able to assist. They have a directory on their website.

AS you've probably discovered, you can't mandate that your legacy passes to a US charity and obtain the IHT exemption.

It has to pass to a UK charity and, if you use a DAF such as CAF, you/they would have to ensure that the US entity would only use the monies for purposes which are charitable under English law.
