HMRC Enquiry and Sage Back Up

Postby momtax » Thu Jul 13, 2017 11:40 am

We have a company client who is under enquiry. The initial letter asked for various anlyses of nominals etc which we sent as PDF files. HMRC said that this was not good enough and have now asked for a copy of the Sage Backup Data. This obviously includes data for prior and subsequent years which are outside the scope of the current enquiry. We are reluctant to send this but the HMRC officer is insisting (threatening Sch 36 notice). She has said that she won't look at the data outside of the enquiry period but I am not comforted by her assurances. Any advice?

The backup copy will cotain a trail of all actions, including deleted items. HMRC will want it and are entitled to it. It is a standard request.

Yes, but it also includes the audit trail for historic and future data which is outside the scope of the current enquiry. We have offered to send the complete audit trail in a pdf and excel format.
