CGT on foreign shares when sell & transfer in different tax years?

Postby nemgreen » Wed Sep 13, 2017 8:14 pm

I've been buying shares via my company's stock purchase scheme for a number of years.
These shares were listed on the NASDAQ in the USA.

This year, the company was acquired via a cash purchase and all shares were sold on the 31st March 2017!

I transferred the resulting funds back to the UK in late April 2017.

How do I need to report this for CGT?
Which tax year does it sit in?
Are the sale and transfer considered separate in terms of CGT?

Thanks

How do I need to report this for CGT? It depends, how much of a gain have you made?
Which tax year does it sit in? 2016/17
Are the sale and transfer considered separate in terms of CGT? No, the important date is the date of sale.

Thanks

Unless you are non-UK domiciled and taxed on the remittance basis.
