TAX RELIEF

Postby niz27 » Sun Nov 30, 2014 10:29 pm

Dear All.

I hope you can help me, and apologies if i sound stupid and ill informed.

I am an NHS employee and have been so since August 2008. I am payed by BACS and therefore on PAYE.

I have as yet not claimed tax relief on any of my major work related expenses - e.g. work equipment/uniform, professional registration, exam fees, etc.

My questions are -

1- How do i go about claiming for these expenses (for which i have receipts)? The amount is in excess of £2500 (approx £5000).

2- How far back am i allowed to claim?

3- How long will it take to receive the reclaimed funds?

Many thanks everyone.

Assuming the amount is £2,500 in total and not per tax year, (in which case you would need to register for self assessment) you should download form P87 from the HMRC home site.
The earliest year for which you can go back is tax year 2010/11

Your exams fees you won't be able to claim for as you can't claim for learning how to do a job.

If you wear a recognisable uniform and you wash it yourself you can claim for www.uniformtaxrebate.co.uk.

If you use a firm like www.uniformtaxrebate.co.uk, you will lose a sizeable chunk of your rebate in their fees.

Download the P87 and read the notes. It will tell you what you can claim for.

Exam fees are not usually an allowable expnse. If you tell us more, we may be able to advise.

You can only go back4 years, so the earliest year you c an claim is 2014-15 (not 2010-11 unless you find a time machine)

otr has replied to an ancient post. Even if the op could have claimed, they're probably out of time by now...

Wow. Not sure what is worse. OTR searching for and replying to an old post, or me responding without noticing the date.
