hmrc vat reciept lost

Postby omsairam » Fri Jul 20, 2018 6:09 pm

Hi,
I had registered with hmrc vat and thought that I will start a business. But I couldn't manage much, earned couple of hundred pounds. This was 1 year ago. I have lost receipts, I have hmrc visit me, can I show it via my credit card statements?? Please advise.

Thanks!

If you spend tens of thousands on your credit card, HMRC will assume that this comes from some sort of business and demand tax and VAT.
If the spending was financed by other means, e.g. gifts from friends & family, you should have kept evidence of this.
