Re: Do unpaid holidays affect non-residency status?

Thanks maths. I will be back in the UK for a holiday for 25 days, then I will return to live and work overseas again. I presume this is not a significant break. This is well under the 91 days allowed. Am I allowed to be back in the UK for up to 30 days at one time, is that right? My only concern is ...

Re: Do unpaid holidays affect non-residency status?

Thanks AGoodman for the reply. I returned to the UK in May 2018 after having worked full-time overseas so I guess my split year is from May 2018, the date I returned to the UK. However, I also departed the UK again to work full-time in Asia for another school in December 2018. Based on this informat...

Do unpaid holidays affect non-residency status?

Hello, I work full-time for an English school in Asia. (40 hours a week). My contract says I have that I officially have 10 days annual leave, and this becomes 14 days with the weekends added. I am currently non-resident in the UK for tax purposes and wouldn't want to jeopardize my non-resident stat...

Re: Number of days allowed to visit UK?

Thanks for the reply maths. I work for an overseas employer, therefore, none of my work is in the UK. I haven't worked in the UK since 2011. Even last year when I left my overseas employment and returned to the UK for 6.5 months, I did not work at all. Since December 2018 I returned to work overseas...

Number of days allowed to visit UK?

Hello, I am confused about how many days one is permitted to be in the UK without forfeiting their non-residence for tax purposes status. I have lived overseas since 2011 and therefore been non-resident in the UK. In 2018/2019, I spent over 183 days in the UK, as I stopped my full-time employment ab...

Re: Returning to UK and leaving again.

Much appreciated darthblingbling. Actually, I teach in China so my earnings are in no means ample enough to need to pay that much tax I would presume, particularly from December 2018 to April 5th 2019. As you said it would fall within y annual tax allowance anyway. What does payment on account mean?...

Re: Returning to UK and leaving again.

Re: 2018/2019, what if I stayed in the UK for over say 150 days, staying with my parents in the UK, not working in the UK at all during hat time, but I was also still paying rent on an apartment in the city in China, which is where I have come back to? Would that make a difference to my situation? W...

Re: Returning to UK and leaving again.

I appreciate the replies maths and darthblingbling. I was non-resident in the UK in 17/18 as I worked overseas full-time, and I returned to the UK in May '18 which is tax year 18/19. I worked in China. So how is it that I can claim split year for 17/18, if I was non-resident in 17/18? I would have t...
