Split year in UK and Portugal

Postby fimcc7 » Mon Jan 08, 2018 9:49 pm

Hello,

My husband and I are just in the process of buying a house and business in Portugal, where we will both be self-employed. We will spend approximately 7 months in Portugal for this first year and will rent out our flat in the UK, then we will back in the UK. This kind of pattern will continue. We both have incomes from the UK and these will continue while we are in Portugal (both paying tax through PAYE). Although we will be spending over 183 days in Portugal we still have many ties in the UK, can someone please advise whether we should be tax resident in the UK or Portugal? And also, because we are in Portugal 7 months of the year, would our Portuguese house constitute our primary residence?

Thank you
