UK income of non-resident

Postby TimBr » Sat Jan 06, 2018 4:41 pm

Hi, I need some help please on my situation below:

I went on a full-time overseas job in Feb 2012 and returned to the UK in Feb 2017; I was non-resident for 2016/17 under the second automatic overseas test. I still do some consultancy work for my overseas employer at a monthly retainer of £750 which I receive in my UK bank account.
Although I was non-resident for 2016/17, the retainer for March 2017 fell in that year. I had no other UK income for that year. Should I file a return? Will this come under split-year?

Thank you for your help.
