Selling your own home

I understand that when selling a property which is not your own home (i.e. a second home) you can claim for refurbishment (improvement) costs etc against CGT.
However, I'm not quite clear on how that works when you sell your own home. Are the calculations totally different in terms of being able to factor in any money spent on improvements and selling fees etc?

If you sell your own home ( PPR ) there is no CGT liability. Regards Peter
