Deduction?

Postby Brightonian » Tue Nov 28, 2017 4:21 pm

I am preparing a property rental account. The property needed a new kitchen and the landlord's mother was replacing her kitchen, so offered him the old one for free. He had to transport it to the rental property and hired a van. Unfortunately, he reversed into the front of the property and incurred a repair charge of £600. I am in two minds as to whether or not this is an allowable deduction. The only reason he hired the van was to transport the kitchen, so the hire itself is wholly and exclusively for the property rental business. I just can't get my head around this. What would others do?

Its part of the cost of hiring the van. I don't see why he can't claim it.
