I'm a non resident British citezen
I rent out 1 property in the UK already
I'm thinking about buying another, can anyone tell me what % stamp duty I will now have to pay

For a residential property as you already own one property the SDLT charge on the purchase of the second property involves a 3% surcharge plus (an extra 2% on top on or after 1 April 2021).


Value of purchase & % rate
Up to £125,000 0%
The next £125,000 (the portion from £125,001 to £250,000) 2%
The next £675,000 (the portion from £250,001 to £925,000) 5%
The next £575,000 (the portion from £925,001 to £1.5 million) 10%
The remaining amount (the portion above £1.5 million) 12%

Add 3% to each of above re your purchase.

So if it were under 125,000 would as a non resident still have to pay the 2% from April the first

Below £125,000 rate for second property is 3% (pre 6.4.21) and 5% thereafter.
