PPR Relief when property has been empty

Postby ritz13 » Mon May 10, 2021 4:12 pm

Hi Guys

If you have rented out your residential property over several years and in between have had periods where the property has been empty, please can you let me know if you are you able to claim PPR relief for the time it was empty (due to refurbishing, renovating etc to get it back into good condition to live or rent out again) when you come to the point of selling the property

Thanks in advance for your help

There are periods that can be considered occupied, depending on circumstances.

Short answer is probably some but would need a full timeline with notes to comment further.

Have a looked at 'deemed occupation'.

Periods when a main or sole residence is let out do not qualify for relief from a CGT charge on a disposal of the property except in limited circumstances of absence.

If during a period when the property is not let out renovations etc are carried out following which the property is again let out then such periods would also not qualify.
