VAT Paperwork

Postby Nat2321302 » Sun Apr 14, 2024 6:00 pm

Hi Good afternoon,

I have a question - an ex -client who has been a client for the past 6 years has gone to a new accountant and he is asking for all the paperwork back for the past 6 years from me.
I have given him the latest 12 months (4 Quarters VAT paperwork) but he is demanding for the rest 5 years.

I said it in garage and need to charge him for my time.

My question is am I required to give him back the VAT paperwork or its his responsibility to keep a copy before give to us to prepare the VAT returns and can I say no to this papers
and am I entitle to change my time to find them?

Look forward to hearing your comments. thx

Firstly, why haven't you returned the paperwork to the client ?
You can keep your working papers, but why store all the original documents?
Tell the new accountant that they are available for collection, and get a receipt from him or the client.
With a pinch of salt take what I say, but don't exceed your RDA
