VAT Against New Build Home and Agricultural Building

Postby Expat1 » Wed May 01, 2024 6:56 pm

Hi, I’m looking to build a forever home for my family on a field that’s about 7 acres. I’m looking to build a large agricultural building on the land too. If I build everything at the same time can the vat on the agricultural building be claimed back like a new build home?
Thanks

There is the D-I-Y self build scheme if you are building your own house. This explains the various conditions and restrictions which you will need be aware of at an early stage.
If the construction of an agricultural building indicates a business activity, then that will complicate the above AND I suggest, get a meeting with your Accountant.

Thanks for the feedback, No the agricultural building will be to keep the land, store my elderly fathers restoration vehicles of which there are many. Not for business use.
