hi anyone advise me
i sent my tax return off which has been flagged for whatever unknow reason is there a way to know what caused the enquiry ?

2ndly i have a til and card machine seperate
when i handed my accountant the end of year figures the til reading i prepared for him was showing less 5K than i had actually amassed on the card machine thouughout the year little to my knowledge
so my accountant had my statements reading say 15K and my till report saying 10K on the card takings
unbeknowingly he has submitted the 10k reading hence missin 5k payments off

now hmrc are saying i have taken the 5k extra and are going in on it ..
whilst i singed and submitted my return is this complet;y my fauly or is my accountant at blame to .. ??

Unfortunately the onus for getting things correct rests with the client and not the accountant ( even if the accountant was negligent in their own right).
Again your narrative may be misleading but if you knew that the figures prepared by you for your accountant were understated then you committed deliberate tax evasion and would have biggish penalties awarded against you in addition to the tax evaded and interest thereon. In that event you need to consider if there were any other years or matters that were dealt with irregularly in the past and get your disclosures on the table before HMRC considers this and extends the checks to other years/periods.
You need to get your ducks in a row and get mitigating the penalties and minimise the irregularities.

By the way HMRC do not need to tell you what caused the enquiry ( but could be till information) and you seriously need to look at all aspects of your business and personal tax matters to see if there are any other matters that might not be correct whether carelessly or deliberately.
