Form SA100 - confirming it's been rec'vd at HMRC by post

Postby paulspad » Sat Jun 15, 2019 10:35 am

Hi all,

A simple enough question but I can't seem to find any answer to this online (via gov.uk) or any forum post.

The question is, if submitting Form SA100 (annual self assessment tax return) by post how does one find out whether it's been successfully received by HMRC or not? Is there a certain phone number to call or is the only way to call a general helpline and ask an adviser after a lengthy wait?

Thanks,

Sounds like a general enquiry to me.

If you login to your personal tax account you find that hmrc will eventually update the date received on their systems.

Note although hmrc don't formally book pending correspondence in - most items are now scanned so once the scanned item has been linked to your record hmrc should be able to confirm receipt and at a minimum the date it showed up on their systems.

number is main self assessment helpline 0300 200 3310

You could always send the item by “to be signed for” -assuming that you can get this from abroad- and then you will be able to track receipt.
regards and hope this helps
