Hi folks,
It came to my attention around 6 months ago that my employer was passing employee contributions to our workplace pension provider after deducting income tax. They had apparently not informed the pension provider (or staff) of this and so the pension provider has never reclaimed the income tax for us. Staff had never looked for this as we also believed our contributions hadn’t been taxed.
For the last 6 months my employer and pension provider have been blaming each other for the error in how things were set up and neither seems inclined to sort this.
My concern is that the first tax year I was effected was 2016/17 and I am worried that the deadline for reclaiming overpaid income tax for that tax year will soon expire - I believe it to be 4 years after end of relevant tax year?
Can anyone shed any light on the deadline for reclaims of this nature and how to go about it? I know it should be up to my employer but I don’t want to lose out on 2016/17 reclaim.
If you’ve gotten this far, sincere thanks for taking the time to read!
