Self employed

Postby Tax questionsk » Sat Nov 16, 2024 6:29 pm

Hello,
I am 14 and want to start self employment by selling products on eBay. Due to my age, my parents will create The eBay account in their name and will connect their bank account to receive money. However, they would transfer any earnings to my bank account and I would also be fully running all aspects of the business independently. I would be registering as a sole trader and filing my annual self assessment tax return under my name as it is my self employment. I was wondering if this would create an issue as the eBay account is in my parents name but I am filling the tax return.
Thanks in advance.

You need to be 18 to have an eBay account, so your parents will need to tell eBay that they are the traders.

That won’t sit well with HMRC who are likely to treat the income as theirs.
