Credit balance after self assessment

Postby Sarah1987 » Mon Aug 04, 2025 8:35 pm

Hi,

I earn under 10 k a year as a mobile hairdresser. I have done my tax assessment for the last 2 years as this is how long I've been trading.

Each time I have been put in to a credit balance after the assessment has been submitted.

Why would I be getting a credit to claim for refund?

I obviously don't pay tax but didn't expect to be given money?

Can anyone explain this?

Thanks

I've tried to make sense of your question, but failed.
If your income is under the personal allowance you pay no tax, and get no refund of the money you haven't paid.
With a pinch of salt take what I say, but don't exceed your RDA

Could you make a simple error like putting any untaxed interest you receive in the taxed interest box on the return?

If not then you would need to confirm exactly which boxes on the return you completed for anyone to offer much help.
