Dealing with VAT

Postby Glass22 » Wed May 15, 2019 8:48 am

I've been a sole trader for many years doing a service business(Business A) I don't make much about 12k a year. Turnover is maybe 16k.

I now have a new business(Business B) still sole trader, however it's very high turnover maybe 100k a year.

The issue I have is can business A be not registered and the new business vat registered.

Business A cannot be VAT registered it would kill it.

Do I make business B ltd and vat registered and keep A as sole trader?

As a sole-trader, it will be you who is VAT registered. You would have to charge VAT on both businesses.

Yes, but if I make B a ltd company instead of sole trader, would this work to keep one not vat registered?
