Of course it was never in doubt....a triple hundred and a century following in the footsteps of Graham Gooch against India at Lords in 1990. Whilst Graham's performance was the result of hard work and talent, HMRC's is attributable to the boss blowing his budget on a project that is already hugely over the original forecast and with no money to spend on services that really matter to his customers.

It worries me that you can demonstrate HMRC are offering 'dog poo' service on a daily basis and still they do nothing to remedy it. MPs are well aware of the problem as you read on HMRC's own forums that disgruntled taxpayers are writing to them to vent their frustration, but still zero sign of any improvement.

As an aside, I travelled well over 200 miles on 4 trains yesterday and not one person checked my ticket.Has everyone lost interest in work?

Viz:

I have raised this issue with my MP who is in turn raising it with the relevant Minister.
I cannot believe that it takes this long to credit payments to NI Accounts; if more effort was put into allocating payments at the time (as with every other major organisation I can think I of) then all this constant chasing and responding to queries would not be necessary!!
It might also free up the phone lines so callers can actually get through in less time than it is currently taking.

So now it is more than eight weeks since I contacted HMRC and was told it would be sorted within that timescale??
Paid the shortfall on 5 January - hopefully it will be credited to my account by the time I draw my state pension in 2 years time. Appalling service and getting worse.

I have been trying to call HMRC on 0300 200 3500 yesterday and today. I've been disconnected multiple times and wait for around 60 min and disconnected. Impossible to talk to anyone in HMRC. And I assume this will get worse when the end of tax year approaches.

I’ve got exactly the same problem been trying to contact HMRC for more than a week now. Trying multiple times every day and just getting disconnected.
Tried looking online and have the same issue as you with this NI Ref number. I’ve looked at all my paperwork but nothing there that fits the description.
I’m all for helping myself but if they can’t put better information on their website to provide you with the tools to help yourself then it’s causes immense frustration.

'Dog Poo' service continuing...3 July letter still unanswered, 64-8 forms not processed, filed tax returns not processed...when will someone confront Sir Jim and ask him to confront the backlog of work on hand before dealing with fresh post....his precious statistics will fall off a cliff but will show everyone where we really are. It is so bloody obvious but seemingly beyond HMRC bosses and regulators.

Viz:
Customer correspondence (iForms and post) cleared within 15 days of receipt (%) [1] 75.1%

If the above is correct, why does HMRC have unanswered post on hand nearly 8 months old?......somebody please at least ask Sir Jim the blooming question.

Red button headline today....MPs launch another blistering attack on HMRC..but HMRC are still spouting nonsense about how brilliant their digital services are....Harra just doesn't get it and probably never will.
