Undeclared income Tax help

Postby mills705 » Thu Apr 09, 2026 12:06 pm

Hi all

short story- My dad transferred a property he rents out to myself in early 2020. He still receives the income from the property and deals with all maintenance etc etc. I was contacted last year by HMRC around undeclared letting income. Turns out I need declare it and not my dad.
I have supplied all the information to the HMRC team including parents banking information etc as they requested.

It is now coming to a close. The additional tax demand was paid when we received it.

Following this we recevied a penalty notice and interest to pay. The penalty notice we paid.

There were inaccuracies on the interest notice which related to the tax years which we queired and they confirmed it was an error so re sent. The amount increased slightly to pay.

When I logged on to the app to pay as suggested by the team there was a different amount to pay- another phone call confirmed to pay the amount on the letter and it would be sorted

I paid it although the app takes several days to update. On reviewing it now I still have £1.35 to pay which confuses me.

Speaking to HMRC they advised it was interest but I paid this well within the deadline required? I have also had no further correspondance from them. It also concerns me that they are now saying on the app it is overdue and interest and penalties apply in regards to it but the deadline is yet to pass.
