ER claim for gain on unlisted shares in 2016/17 return and CGT 20 validation error

Where there is a claim for ER on gains on unlisted shares has anyone had HMRC validation errors with online filing. Software provider says you need to put the gains in the Other property, assets and gains section of TR to get an entry in box 17 and box 20, and not enter the details as unlisted shares in the unlisted shares section of TR and provide an explanation in the white space, otherwise file by paper.

How are others preparing tax returns with gains on unlisted shares and claiming ER? Does this cut across all software providers or just some?
Also when making the ER claim is it sufficient just to have the entries in the TR boxes and some white space disclosure or is the claim form included in HS275 being completed also and attached to return when filed online?
