CGT on inherited house sale

Postby david66 » Wed Oct 13, 2021 8:51 pm

Apologies, I am cross posting this from the IHT forum to get a wider audience... :D

Hi,

My sibiling and I are executors of our parents will and have just sold their house in that capacity. We are also the sole beneficiaries. There is CGT tax liable on the sale. In hind sight it was a mistake to sell as executors as if we had sold the house as beneficiaries, we would have paid the CGT tax as individuals, rather than from the estate and as a result could have offset any personal CGT losses against the bill. Is there anyway I can offset personal CGT losses against the sale now?

Many thanks.
